Lucio, a young oceanographer and researcher with a booming career abroad, decides to leave everything behind to embark on the voyage of his life: 3,000 miles and 4 months of sailing alone aboard a tiny sailboat without a cabin to explore and understand 33 small inhabited islands surrounding Italy. After the book, 33 Islands becomes a documentary and viva-voce account of this adventurous postmodern odyssey, dappled with beautiful and endangered places, in search of what truly remains of the Mediterranean.
